How to create a transparent signature on Acrobat Pro XI?

I scanned and cropped the signature into MS Word, set transparent colour, print to pdf, then opened acrobat and created a signature by uploading the edited signature accordingly. However, the white background is still there. This works for the older version of Acrobat Pro but the old way is not captured by the new version. What's the new possible solution to this?
