Marking Fields as Read-Only After Digitally Signing Issues

I am creating a PDF form that contains several digital signatures.  I am selecting a signatures and am in the property options for that specific signature looking at the "Signed" tab.  I select, Mark as read only, than choose "Just these Fields.

When I select "pick" a new box opens that lists all the fields in my form with a check box next to each.  It appears that I can select the fields I want to mark as read only, however, when I attempt to check a box, nothing.  I can select "select all" and all the firlds become checked, but I cannot check individual fields.

Any thought on what might be going on?

Ideas on providing solution to sign forms

Good morning

I am trying to work out the best way to provide a solution to a client. There will be a pool of three convertible ultra books which clients will take on site to meetings. I am envisaging using adobe acrobat to create forms. The forms will contain fields to enter text. The form also needs to be signed by both parties, the owner of the form and their client.

I see that it is possible to sign a document and then place that signature on a form. While this would work if only the former owner was signing the document this looks like a clunky method when two different parties are required to sign the same form. It would appear if I were to use that method I would need to choose the option to sign a signature, sign as the form owner, place that signature on the form and then clear the signature and then ask the client to then sign and then place that signature on the form. I am really looking for a streamlined way of just allowing both the former owner and client with a single click/tool to sign their signatures.

The other problem I have is because the three ultra books will be shared with a pool of staff each user will not have a separate login. There will just be three logins one for each ultra book. This raises security concerns that Adobe Acrobat if we did use the sign/signature option the previous staff members signature will be stored and available to sign a document by the next user who has the ultra book.

I welcome recommendations on how to provide a solution using Acrobat. I have seen the freedraw tool. Would this be a suitable alternative to actually using the sign tool functionality? It certainly appears the simpler in the sense you just click the tool and both parties can quickly sign the form. Is there a difference, with regard to how official/legal a digital signature is if it is created using the free draw tool or the official sign within Acrobat?

Thank you very much for your assistance

File size increases 100 times after digitally signing

Hi,

I am using Acrobad 10.1.1. on a Windows 7 machine. When I digitally sing the document, the size increases from 30kb to 3Mb. In the past, with Acrobad 9, the size increased to only 100kb.

What could be the reason for this and how could I reduce the size to 100kb again?

Fillable PDF calling for multiple signatures

My goal is to create online fillable PDF files to attach to our company employee intranet, which these employees can find, fill out and either email to another employee, print, or submit to a particular department. These PDF's also need signatures on them, and some call for up to 5 signatures from different employees. What is the best way to go about creating this? I am pretty familiar in creating a PDF document but cant figure out how to add a signature field that employees without Acrobat can sign, and also how to have these forms able to be sent from person to person for signatures. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

And I am using Acrobat Pro XI.

Hello,

I am unable to remove a known password on a document (using version 11.0.3 currently, but also on older versions).  I have no "Protection" option under Tools and I see no "Remove Security" check boxes (or any check boxes) in the Security tabs.  Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

Farcical interactions between reader & acrobat for wet signatures

Apologies for the flamebait style subject, but im incredibly frustrated with adobe's products.

I have a PDF which requires a signature, it is a secure PDF, but permissions allow for signatures (in this case opting for 'wet' from an image).

If I open the PDF in reader, it will let me paste in the signatures and add the dates.  Looks good.  However the only way to 'save' is to use EchoSign.  Attempted to use that and it is horribly broken.  Maybe the PDF itself is incorrectly configured, but when using EchoSign, the signature is added to the very bottom of the document in none of the editable fields.

The other option to save is to use Acrobat.

I've downloaded the latest acrobat (11.0, Win7, x64 - trial) - open the PDF - and the sidebar for sign actions is greyed out.

This is what's annoying - I open this file in Reader - that sidebar is active, allows me to paste in the signatures, but does not allow me to save.  To save it tells me to get Acrobat.

I get Acrobat, and for the same file it does not allow me to enter the signatures.

I appreciate there may be some issue in how the PDF fields were created, however what i've descibed above is a horrible user experience, and unfairly or not, reinforces my low opinion of adobe's PDF suite of products.  How you can have one tool disable a feature, point to another tool, and that other tool not offer the described functionality is infuriating.

At this stage i'm unclear what the resolution is.  It most likely is to print & scan, something EchoSIgn should do and fails at in this case.  Going the PDF modification route has been a failure.  I have no control over the original PDF, so I cannot modify & regenerate that.

If there are any resolution steps would be interested in exploring.  I could alternatively file a bug report.

Miscellaneous Change(s) warning on Signatures panel when document signed twice

Hello,

I used Acrobat XI (the latest evaluation version) to create a document with two certificate-based signatures. For some reason, when viewing the document in Acrobat XI or Reader X, the following warning is displayed between the signatures on the Signatures panel:

1 Miscellaneous Change(s)

Left-clicking or right-clicking on the warning does nothing, and no further details about the changes are provided on signature properties dialogs either.

Could you let me know how can I overcome reporting this warning please? I didn't alter the document between signings, so I am fairly sure that no changes were introduced to it. I am attaching a screen capture of what I'm concerned about. Just let me know if you need the document itself, and I'll be happy to send it over.

Certificates no longer work for signing when moving to Acrobat XI

$

Hello,

At my organization we have vendor-supplied certificates (x.509 v3) that we use to sign PDFs.  These certificates function correctly with Acrobat 7, 9, and X (mix of XP and Win7).  When attempting to sign a PDF in Acrobat XI (Win7), an error is reported by the Windows CSP: "The requested operation is not supported.  Error Code: 2148073513".

I also have some certificates generated in-house that do not result in this error, and sign correctly with Acrobat 7, 9, X, and XI.

My guess is that some property of the vendor-supplied certificates is not playing well, and that it must be some difference between the two.  The vendor certs have about 10 extensions, mine has 2.  I've pasted a dump of the additional extensions below; all other details appear to be shared.  Key size is 2048 for the vendor, 1024 for in-house.

Thank you!

Security Add/Block Bar Blocks FDF Status Return Message

$

Hi,

I have a form document using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro that submits form data to a Linux server using PHP.  After the data is processed a message is returned to the document via FDF to inform the user about the results.  However, the first time the form is submitted -- by the clients using their copy -- it asks the user if it is okay to go to the site it is being submitted to (which would be nice to avoid if possible).

If yes is selected the yellow security bar comes up saying: "Some features have been disabled to avoid potential security risks. Only enable these features if you trust this document."  At this point you can either click to trust once or trust always. In either case, after clicking on the option it makes the security bar go away, but my return message is never received.

As it turns out the form was submitted and successfully processed.  But from the user's perspective it seems as though nothing happened -- causing them to submit the form again and entering duplicates.  Is there ideally a way to avoid the whole security issue upfront?  If not, is there some way to get my return message to show despite the security disruption?

Thanks for your time and consideration,

Mike

Can't find CRL, when the CRL location points to LDAP (ldap:///)

I'm trying to verify a digital signature in Adobe. The CRL of the certificate is pointed by an LDAP url (ldap:///CN=ROOT,CN=CDP,CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=TEST,DC=LOCAL?certificateRev ocationList?base?objectclass=cRLDistributionPoint).

The error as it appears in Adobe:

CRL download error

Location: ldap:///CN=ROOT,CN=CDP,CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=TEST,DC=LOCAL?certificateRev ocationList?base?objectclass=cRLDistributionPoint

I should mention that when I use a certificate with a CDP entry that points to an HTTP url, I don't get such errors. Is it a known bug/limitation? will it be fixed? is there a way to allow/force Adobe to read the LDAP url?

P.S.

I'm aware that un-checking the "Require certificate revocation checking to succeed whenever possible during signature verification" solves the issue (as it simply skips the CRL checking), so I prefer to have the CRL check working

Flash and signature detection

How is Echosign determining that the word signature or sign is in a document? Is there a Flash component? My content management system is refusing my upload because it is looking for a flash file. I have converted InDesign files to a pdfs hundreds of times without issue, until now. This is the only thing different. And i do have the word signature in the file because it's a cover letter example. So, please let me know if this detector is the flash file my CMS is looking for.

Adobe X Std - Electronic Signatures and Flattening Document

$

We are experimenting with Electronic signatures using Adobe X std.  Once a signature is added to a document, we want to flatten the document so that the signature and all other annotations can not be changed.   I have found the javascript code needed to flatten documents and it works fine for all annotations, but not for the signatures.   After adding a signature and choosing to flatten the document, I get the error:

NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.

Doc.flattenPages:266:App FlattenPages:Exec

I don't know what security settings or other changes are needed to prevent the error.   Help would be greatly appreciated!

Multiple Signatures on Large Plan Sets? - Open to Other Security Measures

$

Good afternoon,

I'm looking for a way to circulate large plan sets to three reviewers for digital signature. The PDFs are, and must remain, formatted to clearly print at 24''x36''. As some plan sets are 12+ pages, this is too large to pass along through our email.

We do our plan review through an online portal, where each department marks up the PDF, exports comments as FDF, and then the case manager imports all comments into one PDF. I'd prefer to find a solution for signing plans using this portal too, but I imagine it will have to be done offline and then uploaded.

I'm also open to any other solutions for locking and securing an approved document. If not a signature, maybe a timestamp or watermark on each page? Anything more secure than a simple stamp that can so easily be altered.

Print PDF as PDF - alternative to redaction tool?

$

0

Sometimes it's not possible to select items which need to be redacted from a pdf simply by using the redact tool.  For example, cursive signatures, diagrams, or faded text which aren't properly detected by OCR.  I'm wondering if a workaround for this is to use the rectangle tool, set the fill color to black, and black out sections which need to be redacted, then print the pdf and select "pdf" as the printer name.  No metadata would be saved, correct?

So let's say I mark up "PDF A" using this method, then print as pdf, saving as "PDF B."  Would this give me the same result as printing a hard copy of "PDF A," redacting with a black marker, and then scanning back into the computer, making it 100% impossible for anyone to access the redacted material?  Seems like common sense but I'm redacting some very sensitive material which is going to be uploaded to a public site and want to be certain.

Thanks,

JV

Changes in document after signing...

$

I have a signed PDF document, which I need to be authorised converted. According to Acrobat is the document signed with valid signature and there are no changes after signing. (So i can't view and save the signed version). But the clerk who is doing the conversion, claims that there are some changes after signing and the document can't be converted. I told him that there are no changes according to Acrobat. And he told me, that Acrobat can ignore some "small changes in the pdf code" but his software for conversion can't.

My question is: is it possible that Acrobat can ignore "small changes after signing" and confirm it as signed nonedited version? Or is it a nonsense and only incompetence of the clerk or his software?
