"Sign" Tool vs. Digital Signature?
I'm afraid I've been confusing two different things and need help as to whether that is correct. I'm familiar with documentation about electronic signatures; I'm also familiar with the Acrobat "Sign" tool. My concern is that I've thought the two were connected, but am now thinking they are not. There's almost no documentation online that talks about the "sign" tool in connection with forensic digital signature certification. I have valid electronic signatures saved in my Windows Certificate Store, but I don't know how I might choose and apply one to a file that doesn't already have a form field requiring one. I'd also like confirmation that the "sign" tool creates an image of a signature that has no special data attached to it. Finally, as an enterprise user, I don't know what our Adobe Sign Account Admin has enabled or disabled in my account (and I half suspect we don't even have one and the program is resting on its defaults). Is there a way to see what my account's signature preferences are set at? Point me to any documentation that helps, thanks.
Can I set the "Lock Document After Signing" to be on/checked by default?

Reason dropdown when digitally signing
Hi,
I've read lots of posts on this subject and can replace the standard drop-down reasons with a custom list and a heap of lock-down features.
The issue is that "none" always appears as a Reason in the drop-down, irrespective of if that is an option in the custom list.
Is there
1) A way to remove it?
OR
2) A way to disable the SIGN button until the Reason is changed from "none".
(Assume this is a free-form signature we're talking about, not a field on a defined form)
We have a requirement where to digitally sign something it is MANDATORY to supply a reason, and "none" won't suffice.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Client signature on a touch-screen notebook
On my notebook, all I want to do is open a form I created and have a client sign it on my computer. No sending to an email address until after it's signed. I just a simple client finger signature to be saved with .pdf. Is this possible?

Restrict Editing
Is there a way to restrict editing across multiple files at once? I would assume since we can do this with Bates numbering and running text recognition, there must be a way to restrict editing with a password across more than one document at a time. Thanks for any insight!

signature only works on some documents
Hi, every month I have 12 documents that I use the fill and sign and sign the documents. All of a sudden this has stopped working but only on some of the documents. This has happened in the past couple of months. All of the documents are generated exactly the same.
certificate issued by a recognized authority to encrypt a document
Hello,
after a long search, I still have a doubt about encrypting PDF files with a certificate.
I understand that to encrypt a PDF document with a self-signed certificate, it is necessary to do so with the correspondent's certificate. However, in my situation, the correspondents will be different each time, it is unthinkable to ask these people to create one.
I would like your help to understand if it is possible with a certificate issued by a recognized authority to encrypt a document with the private key and therefore send the document with the public key?
Reading the documentation, I don't think it's possible, but I do have some information that leaves some doubt and I can't afford to be wrong.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Flattening all Content in a PDF
I am trying to make a permanent, un-removable watermark. I've got some custom javascript that puts a vector watermark on the pdf.
Just for good measure I use the flatten image option in both action wizard and preflight (I am using Acrobat X). However if I go to "navigation pane -> content" I can still see the individual watermark and delete it.
What am I missing in order to flatten all containers together? (i.e. essentially save the files as jpegs and then combine them again).
How to configure Acrobat to save to current file location when saving?
Our agency uses digital signatures within our auditing platform and we've run into a problem with the 'save as' location when adding a digital signature. Sometime last year Acrobat begin defaulting to the last save location when adding a digital signature. We need the application to default to the current file location when adding the signature so it will overwrite the existing file. Our audit software creates temp versions of files when editing documents, so the 'save as' location is dynamic and different for each user. This has made for a messy process that confuses many users. We are using Acrobat XI Standard (ver. 11.0.0).
Any help would me very much appreciated!
Difference between signatures in Acrobat and Sign
Looking to understand the difference between using Acrobat for digital signatures vs using Adobe Sign.
Is there anyway to change the information in a signature's data block?
I'm wondering if there is any way to change the information in the data block that appears with Acrobat's signature?
My boss would like it to be the person's name, job title and company with the date.
Any assistance in this area would be helpful.
Many thanks,

FIPS mode versus Standard [non-fips] with 256-bit AES encryption
Hi, I am confused. I recognize there is a "FIPS mode" if I change my registry however, I thought the non FIPs mode protection required to open with 256-BIT AES would be FIPS 140-2 compliant. That is, why would I need to use "FIPS mode (by creating and flagging REG_DWORD bFIPSMode = 1) if I can protect / encrypt to open with "standard mode" with Compatibility mode Acrobat X and Later (256-bit AES) [X] Encrypt all documents contents. I would appreciate a better understanding of what is really to required to be FIPS-140-2 compliant (at least to level 1).

Thank you.
How do I unlock a PDF that has a signed and certified signature so that I can redact information?
Is it possible to have an Adminstrator obtain the secure password for the signed document in order to unlock the PDF and redact?
Have I successfully (permanently) watermarked my PDF?
I've got old physical picture books I've scanned and turned into a PDF. I'm trying to watermark it so that it is permanently irremovable (i.e. it is 'one' with the rest of the page).
Here is my process:
- Add a comment (stamp) to the document which acts as the watermark
- and then use the java script "event.target.flattenPages();
- then finally use "Sanitize Document" to remove overlapping information.
When I look into the "contents" tab I am only seeing one image (see attachment) and if I delete it both the watermark and rest of the page is deleted ... which makes me think this worked ... but did it actually? Is the watermark now irremovable (at least easily) from the PDF?
